Simple Changes Do Make a Difference

Life today is a risky business when it comes to drinking water and food. As a person who believes in and takes natural supplements, I am always amused when people tell me that they will not take anything that their doctor has not prescribed. Little do they know about all the chemicals (most untested for human toxicity) and drugs that lurk in our food, water and air.

We are "taking" things not prescribed by doctors all the time just by drinking water and eating our food and don't even think a thing about it. There have been dramatic changes in the our food supply as well as our eating habits that are causing equally dramatic changes in our health.  Watch this Video on Our Toxic World.

While we are using more pesticides and herbicides along with genetic manipulation of crops, the nutritional of our food has decreased since the 1950's. Crops are picked before they are ripe, lowering the nutritional potential of the fruits and vegetables. Our drinking water is the source a myriad of chemicals including prescription drugs, industrial pollutants, agricultural runoff and fertilizers. Now 20% of the lead exposure we get on a daily basis, including bottled water. Using filtered water is sensible and a healthier way to get the much needed hydration we need daily.

Overcoming Seasonal Mood Changes
Sleeping or eating a little more than usual? Feeling melancholy for no apparent reason? Craving carbohydrates and suffering from couch potatoism? While these are common and somewhat normal reactions to the change of seasons, the short days and long nights of fall can actually trigger a condition known as seasonal affect disorder, or S.A.D.—a cyclical condition associated with symptoms of depression, lethargy, and fatigue.

The signs and symptoms of S.A.D. usually come and go at the same time each year, usually appearing in late fall or early winter and then going away during the warmer, sunnier days of spring and summer.

So what causes S.A.D.? Well, the exact cause is unclear. However, this condition has been linked to a biochemical imbalance in the brain triggered by shorter daylight hours and lack of sunlight during the winter. As seasons change, people experience a shift in their biological clocks. This can throw them off their daily routines, and this disruption may then trigger depression. Some researchers believe the disorder may be linked to increased production of melatonin, a sleep-inducing hormone. Others believe that lack of sunlight causes a drop in brain serotonin levels, a natural brain chemical that affects mood.

Over the years, Shaklee has fueled the dreams of many athletes. In fact, Shaklee-powered athletes have won over 100 medals at both the Summer and Winter Olympic Games. This year we have extended our commitment to these world-class athletes by creating the Shaklee Pure Performance Team.

Introducing the Shaklee Pure Performance Team

Creating the Shaklee Pure Performance Team, a group of elite athletes, led by 2008 Beijing Games competitor and pentathlete Eli Bremer, all handpicked from a variety of highly competitive sports.Eli Bremer

Each of these athletes understands the importance of premium quality nutrition when it comes to competing at the highest levels possible. Safety and purity are of utmost importance to athletes of this caliber.

Safety is paramount at Shaklee, as well, and our standards are unsurpassed. We conduct up to 350 tests on every new ingredient for harmful contaminants, and we perform over 100,000 quality tests a year to ensure the greatest purity and potency possible. That's why so many athletes have placed their trust in Shaklee.

Our goal with the Shaklee Pure Performance Team is simple. We aren't trying to make the superstars of sport richer through lucrative sponsorship deals, but rather to put premium nutritional products in the hands of those who believe in, and have come to rely on, their benefits—across both the popular and some of the more obscure, but equally competitive, sports that make up today's modern Games.

Meet a few of our Shaklee Athletes

Shaklee Sports NutritonShaklee has powered athletes of all kinds, including some of your fellow Distributors. Meet Roscoe Champion (New Mexico) and Scott Searcy (New York) who are doing incredible things with Shaklee Sports Nutrition™!

Roscoe ChampionRoscoe Champion (Coordinator, NM)
- After 20 plus years of Shaklee supplements at age 64, I discovered the U. S. Senior Games and decided to enter four events in my college sport, swimming.

Shaklee Performance® and Physique® were absolutely indispensable before, during and after every workout or competition. These two products were major contributors to my success. How I wished I could have had them in my college days!

In the ensuing 11 years, competing in four events (the 50, 100, 200 and 500 yard freestyles), and through four 5-year age groups, I won in each of the 60 races I participated in. I set 15 state records in the local and New Mexico state competitions.

And in the U.S. Nationals at Baton Rouge, LA, I won two gold medals and two silver medals...at age 71. I stopped swimming competitively six years ago, but at 81, I'm still swimming and still enthusiastically sharing Shaklee's fabulous Sports Nutrition products. I'm proof that they really work!

Scott SearcyScott Searcy (Coordinator, NY)
- My introduction to Shaklee Sports Nutrition products came as I was closing in on my goal of 80 pounds lost with Cinch®**. During that time, I was introduced to triathlons. I had decided, some say naively, to participate in a half-distance triathlon -- a 70.3 mile task in all.

I was hoping to finish in less than seven hours total.  On race day, Shaklee Performance® fueled me through what was a much more difficult task than I realized! Luckily, I had plenty of Shaklee Physique® to get me recovered in time for my 6:00 am fitness class I was teaching the next day!

Currently, I use Shaklee sports products to complete swims, bikes, and runs, without the feelings of dehydration, ‘bonking’, or delayed onset muscle soreness. This allows me to fit my hobby into my real work of being a personal fitness trainer.

My job gives me the platform to show people that the old adage “no pain, no gain” is not true with Shaklee. Anyone can perform at their best physically and strive to maintain a balanced home life. Shaklee Sports Nutrition products allow me to be a happy husband, a playful dad, the top trainer in my region, and a triathlete.

**Results not typical. In a preliminary study of the Cinch Inch Loss Plan, participants on average lost 15.4 pounds in 12 weeks.

Omega-3's May Reduce Risk of Breast Cancer

In a recent study published in the Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention Journal, researcher Dr. Emily White, PhD. stated that "There is some limited evidence from my study and others that fish oil may be good for preventing breast cancer, but there is not sufficient evidence to make a public health recommendation right now." Even with the caution, she continued to say that "If you are taking fish oil now for other reasons, this is reassuring that it may have beneficial effects beside what you are taking it for."

Omega-3's are taken by many people for their benefit with heart related conditions. Supportive but not conclusive research shows that consumption of EPA and DHA omega-3 fatty acids may also reduce the risk of coronary heart disease.  Research also shows that high levels of omega-3 fatty acids promote cardiovascular health and help retain normal blood pressure and triglyceride levels. Omega-3s also support healthy brain, vision, and joint function.*

Involving more that 35,000 postmenopausal women, each completed a questionnaire about their use of supplements. Included in the list of supplements was Fish Oil (Omega 3's), St. John’s wort, acidophilus, soy, black cohosh, glucosamine, chondroitin, dong quai, methylsulfonylmethane, ginkgo biloba, ginseng, melatonin and garlic pills .
